Wout van Aert shares astonishing figures | cycling

It should come as no surprise that a perfectionist like Van Aert meticulously keeps track of all kinds of figures and data. And so the Jumbo-Visma rider was able to calculate that in 2021 he had not slept in his own bed for 205 nights. That’s 56 percent of the year.

Of those nights he slept above 2000 meters 72 times, so on altitude training. That did not harm Van Aert because in his 62 race days (49 road races, 13 cyclocross races) he recorded 21 victories. He thus won more than one race out of the three he participated in in 2021.

Those 21 victories were preceded by 31,064 training kilometers, calculated Van Aert. In a nutshell: each victory cost about 1,500 training kilometres. Those more than 31,000 kilometers were covered in just under a thousand training hours: 996.

If you put them in a row, Van Aert was on the bike for 41 days continuously in 2021, not counting competition kilometers.
