Hockey players beat China again

KNVB gives professional clubs a say in the organization of competitions

6.06 pm: The ECV (Eredivisie CV) and CED (Cooperative First Division) are given control over the organization of the competitions of the Eredivisie and first division. The KNVB announces that this was decided during the General Meeting of Professional Football. The introduction of this league board meets the wishes of the majority of professional football clubs. The goal is “to facilitate sporting performance even better and to increase the value of football,” says the football association.

The professional football league board is given multiple tasks and powers. This includes determining the competition program of the Eredivisie and first division, the division of the Eredivisie and first division and determining the format of both competitions. Furthermore, the new board deals with whether or not matches are postponed, it decides whether or not to play matches in both competitions and to stop the Eredivisie and first division if these competitions cannot be played due to force majeure or unforeseen circumstances.

Establishing and announcing the promotion and relegation scheme for professional football also falls under the competence of the league board, as well as determining the play-off competitions and associated regulations.

As of 1 July, the professional football league board is responsible for determining and monitoring the matches to be played. The competition board consists of the professional football director of the KNVB, the director of the ECV and the director of the CED. Previously there was structural consultation, but ECV and CED had no formal role in the decision-making.

Pattinama-Kerkhove reaches final Wimbledon qualifying round

Israel – Premier Tech with Froome in Tour de France

4:43 pm: Chris Froome, four-time winner of the Tour de France, is included in the Tour roster of his Israel – Premier Tech squad. It will be the British cyclist’s tenth participation in the Tour de France.

The 37-year-old Froome won the Tour in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. After his bad crash in June 2019, the Briton had to recover a lot and since then he has struggled to get back to top level. “It’s great to start with Israel – Premier Tech in my tenth Tour de France,” said Froome. “I’ve worked exceptionally hard this year and I’m looking forward to giving it my all.”

In the Tour, the Israeli team is counting on the Dane Jakob Fuglsang, third in the recent Tour of Switzerland, and the Canadian Michael Woods. Van Bommel starts new season with Antwerp at KV Mechelen

12:39 pm Mark van Bommel starts the Belgian league with his new employer Antwerp FC with an away game against fellow provincial KV Mechelen on Sunday 24 July. National champions Club Brugge will receive Racing Genk the same day, according to the schedule released on Wednesday.

Standard Luik and AA Gent open the Belgian league on Friday 22 July. Anderlecht receive Ostend two days later.

Janmaat stops playing football and becomes technical manager at ADO

Janmaat started his professional career in 2007 with ADO and then played for sc Heerenveen, Feyenoord, Newcastle United and Watford. In December 2020, the right defender returned to ADO, which relegated that season. Janmaat got little time to play due to injuries. ADO seemed to return to the Eredivisie after one year at the end of May, but Excelsior won the final of the play-offs after penalties.

„ADO Den Haag is really my club and I have not regretted my return to the club a year and a half ago. Despite the fact that I still had a contract for one year, I started to doubt whether I wanted to continue as a football player,” says Janmaat. “My ambition is to remain active in the football world, but in a different role. When I got the chance to fulfill this position at ADO Den Haag, I didn’t have to hesitate for long.”

Janmaat played 34 times for the Dutch national team and was part of the selection that finished third at the 2014 World Cup.

Tokyo Games: Cost more than double the 2013 estimate

The Northern Japanese city of Sapporo wants to host the Winter Games in 2030. A March survey in Sapporo and the surrounding region showed that a majority of residents are in favor of hosting the event. The upcoming Winter Games will be in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2016.
