Asian Games in China postponed for year because of corona
11:05 a.m.: The Asian Games in the Chinese city of Hangzhou have been postponed by a year due to the resurgence of the corona virus in China. The quadrennial event would take place from September 10 to 25 this year.
The decision was made by the OCA, the Olympic Committee of Asia, “after careful consideration by all stakeholders of the size of the Games and the situation of the pandemic.” Last month it was decided that the event would continue in 2022 despite the increasing number of infections.
Most international sporting events in China have been suspended since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, except for the Winter Olympics in Beijing. These took place in February in a strict ‘biobubble’. Shortly after the Games, the metropolis of Shanghai had to deal with one of the worst outbreaks of Covid-19 in two years. The many millions of residents have been in lockdown since the beginning of April. Hangzhou is about 200 kilometers from Shanghai.
Australia had already announced last week that it would not send athletes to the Asian Games.
Arsenal extend contract for head coach Arteta
11.06 am: Arsenal have extended the contract of head coach Mikel Arteta. The 40-year-old former player of the club is now stuck in London until the 2024-2025 season. His old contract ran until the summer of 2023.
“We want to take the club to the next level and really compete with the top teams. For that we have to play in the Champions League. We need to be able to develop the team and make our players better,” said Arteta, who joined Arsenal in December 2019. He then succeeded Unai Emery, now successful at Villarreal.
Arsenal are in fourth place in the Premier League and have qualified for the Champions League in their own hands. This season Arsenal have not played European football after last season’s disappointing eighth place.
The contract of Jonas Eidevall, the head coach of the football players of Arsenal, was also extended. The 39-year-old Swede has now been detained until mid-2024. Vivianne Miedema is under contract with Arsenal.

European finals are very exciting, with 100,000 Scots and 50,000 Germans in Seville. Those with a ticket for the Europa League final turned it into a popular festival. Without this entourage, a blood-curdling penalty series remained after a dragon of a match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers FC. Apart from all the tension, it is not surprising with the number eleven of the Bundesliga against the number two of the Scottish Premier League.

Preview Giro stage 13: Can Van der Poel’s team challenge the sprinters? † NOW
In the thirteenth stage of the Giro d’Italia, the sprinters seem to be on the move again. The ride from San Remo has one climb, which is far from the finish in Cuneo. Nevertheless, Mathieu van der Poel’s team has opportunities to avoid a typical sprinter’s ride.
After 54 kilometers the riders already reach the top of the Colle di Nava, the only climb of the day. The peloton then moves on to a plateau as far as Cuneo. The last 100 kilometers are almost flat.
Although the second part seems ideal for fast men like Arnaud Démare and Fernando Gaviria, it is conceivable that teams will avoid a bunch sprint. On the climb of the Colle di Nava (10.1 kilometers at 6.7 percent) they can encourage the sprinters to release.
One of the teams that benefits from this is Alpecin-Fenix. Since leader Van der Poel usually digests climbs better than other fast men, it is quite possible that the Belgian team accelerates here.
They did that earlier in the fifth stage, when Mark Cavendish and Caleb Ewan, among others, had to pass on the only climb of the day. Démare also had to release briefly in that stage, but still won the stage after coming back with the help of his teammates.

Eyes on bunch sprint on Démare
It remains to be seen whether Alpecin-Fenix actually has a plan and whether other teams are willing to cooperate. If that is not the case, there is a chance that it will still be a sprint with a large peloton. In that case, Démare is the big favorite.
The Frenchman has already won two stages in this Giro and is wearing the points jersey. Now that Ewan has given up, he has also lost an important competitor. In addition, Cavendish does not seem to be in top shape uphill, which means that he probably cannot participate for the stage victory in Cuneo.
Official start: 13.35 hrs
Expected finish time: 5.15 pm
Favorites for day success:
⭐⭐⭐ Arnaud Demare
⭐⭐ Mathieu van der Poel, Fernando Gaviria
⭐ Alberto Dainese, Thomas De Gendt, Mauro Schmid
