MotoGP rider Aleix Espargaro takes pole position in Barcelona

3.55 pm: Aleix Espargaro will start on Sunday in Barcelona from the best starting position in the MotoGP class at the Grand Prix of Catalonia. The Spanish motorcycle racer will be joined on the front row by Italian Francesco Bagnaia and Frenchman Fabio Quartararo.

Bagnaia won the eighth game of the world championship in Italy last week. Espargaro is 8 points behind leader Quartararo in the standings.

Sailors Lambriex and Van de Werken win World Cup in Almere

13:42: Sailors Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken have won the World Cup in Almere. The Dutch finished fifth in the closing medal race in the 49er class and saw the victory go to the Irish Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove.

For Lambriex and Van de Werken, that performance was enough to finish first in the standings. Dickson and Waddilove came in second, ahead of Austrians Benjamin Bildstein and David Hussl. Pim van Vugt and Scipio Houtman finished seventh.

Among the women, the overall victory in 49erFX class also went to a Dutch team. Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz were just ahead of the Belgian couple Isaura Maenhaut and Anouk Geurts. Bronze went to Australian women Olivia Price and Evie Haseldine.

Van Aanholt and Duetz decided last week that they will continue together until the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Duetz took the bronze Olympic medal in Tokyo in 2021 with Annemiek Bekkering in the 49erFX. Not much later that year in Oman, Van Aanholt became world champion together with Elise de Ruijter in the same skiff boat.

Argentine footballer Tévez (38) ends career

12.58 pm: Carlos Tévez has ended his football career. The 38-year-old attacker announced this in an Argentine television show.

Tévez last played for Boca Juniors a year ago. He previously played for West Ham United, Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus.

Tévez played 75 matches for the Argentina national team. The striker was part of the roster when he won gold at the 2004 Games in Athens. Tevez also competed in the 2010 World Cup, where Argentina lost to Germany in the quarterfinals.

Belgian national coach Martínez fears serious injury Lukaku

10.11 am: Belgian national coach Roberto Martínez thinks he will no longer have Romelu Lukaku in the coming international matches. The 29-year-old striker of Chelsea fell out in the first half in the first half meeting with the Netherlands in the Nations League on Friday after a duel with Nathan Aké.

“It doesn’t look good,” said Martínez, who saw his team lose 4-1 in Brussels. “We will perform a scan in 48 hours, but I doubt he will be in action during this international match. He has an ankle injury.”

Record for baseball player Bogaerts at Boston Red Sox

8.46 am: Baseball player Xander Bogaerts has broken a record. The 29-year old Aruban, international of the Netherlands Kingdom Team, played his 1094th game as shortstop for the Boston Red Sox. Bogaerts thus passed Everett Scott, who completed his 1093rd race more than a hundred years ago.

In its meeting with Oakland Athletics, which was won 7-2, Bogaerts hit a homerun, double and three runs batted in.
