Together with Soundz Magazine, the ALS Netherlands Foundation is organizing an auction that is entirely devoted to guitarist George Kooymans and the rock band Golden Earring.

It concerns three signed portraits, the proceeds of which are intended for research into the deadly disease ALS that affected George. The go-ahead for the online auction will be given on March 18 at 19.00 in Soundz Live, the Friday evening program of Radio Veronica.

Together for the fight against ALS

Soundz Live, the program on Radio Veronica in which a lot of attention is paid to live music and Dutch bands, helps the ALS Foundation to collect as much money as possible. “We were immediately enthusiastic about this initiative. Not only is it a beautiful tribute to Golden Earring, it is also for a very important cause: research into the deadly disease ALS,” said Soundz editor-in-chief Jean-Paul Heck.

Radio Veronica promotes the auction on the station. DJ Carsten van Dijk: “Veronica supports the ALS Netherlands Foundation and we hope to raise as much money as possible for this great cause.”

Golden Earring collector’s items

Three unique collector’s items are offered at the auction; Beautiful framed portraits signed by the band members. Artist John van Ireland made two portraits: one of George Kooymans and one of the entire band Golden Earring. John has made a limited number of high-quality prints of the original drawings and three of these piezographies are up for auction.

The band members hope that the signed portraits will yield a lot. Cesar Zuiderwijk: “John also offered us (Rinus, Barry and me) a piezography. We didn’t want that, because as much proceeds as possible should go to the fight against ALS.” Zuiderwijk will kick off on Friday in Soundz Live by radio Veronica.

Signed by all band members

The piezographies with the full Golden Earring contain the autographs of all the band members. And that is special, because it has been no less than sixteen years since the band signed something together. The piezography with a solo portrait of George Kooymans is signed by himself. The original drawing is in the possession of the guitarist himself.

Announcement of final proceeds

The auction lasts for a week. The final proceeds will be announced on Friday 25 March in the radio program Soundz Live on Radio Veronica. You can bid from Friday 18 March 19.00 to Friday 25 March 21.00 via www.alsveiling.nl.
