Roland Garros: title holder Krejcikova is already out, Russian continues on Tuesday | Tennis

The 19-year-old Parry is the world number 97. She already participated in Roland Garros three years ago and then won a competition at the age of 16. During the past two editions, she lost in the opening round.

Krejcikova took the title in Paris last year very surprisingly. In the final she was too strong in three sets for the Russian Anastasiya Pavlyuchenkova, who is missing this year at Roland Garros.

Exit Osaka

Naomi Osaka is again quickly knocked out. The 24-year-old Japanese, four-time grand slam winner, lost 7-5 6-4 to American Amanda Anisimova.

After exactly one and a half hours, Anisimova, the number 27 on the seeding list, used her third game point with a backhand down the line. Anisimova and Osaka were already able to meet in the first round, because the Japanese has slipped into the world ranking.

The 24-year-old Osaka, now world number 38, has never progressed beyond the third round in Paris. Last year, she withdrew after controversy over her decision to skip the press conferences. The tournament threatened to disqualify her, after which she decided to withdraw herself.

Anisimova (20) reached the semifinals at Roland Garros in 2019 as a teenager. She then lost to eventual winner Ashleigh Barty.

Swiatek ready within an hour

Iga Swiatek has secured a place in the second round with a great display of power. The Polish number 1 in the world left Ukrainian Lesja Tsurenko, who is 119th in the global ranking, without a chance with 6-2 6-0.

The one-sided match on the covered Court Philippe Chatrier lasted only 54 minutes. The roof of the main runway was closed because it is rainy in Paris on Monday.

In the final game, Swiatek (20) used her third game point, with a return winner. “I’m glad I finished early. After the media duties I have the time to go into Paris for a while. What I am going to do? Keep an eye on my Instagram”, said the Polish, who noted twenty winners.

Russian interrupted

The first round match of Arantxa Rus op was interrupted on Monday evening. Rus lost the first set 6-1 against the sixteenth-seeded Kazakh Elena Rybakina, but has a 4-2 lead in the second set.

Halfway through the second set it started to rain heavily in Paris, after which the supervisor ordered the umpire to interrupt the match around 9.40 pm.

The question is whether the game can still be completed on Monday. Otherwise, the game will be completed on Tuesday afternoon.
