Red Bull deploys Juri Vips during first free practice in Barcelona | Motorsport

Every Formula 1 team has the obligation to use a young driver at least twice every season. It will be a busy weekend for Vips, because the driver from Tallinn also competes in Formula 2. In that race championship, Vips occupies 8th place in the intermediate standings.

“So happy to make my debut at Red Bull in a Formula 1 weekend,” writes Vips on Instagram. “I can’t put into words how grateful I am for the opportunity they gave me.”

In addition to De Vries and Vips, Polish veteran Robert Kubica will also drive the Alfa Romeo. De Vries, world champion in the electric racing class Formula E, replaces the Thai Alexander Albon in the first session of one hour. The 37-year-old Kubica takes over the wheel from the Chinese Zhou Guanyu, who returns to the car in the second training session.
