The Canadian created a curious moment during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. Just as Nicholas Latifi (Williams) was about to pass, Stroll turned to the right and hit his compatriot. Latifi then made a big bang in the wall. For both drivers, the session was over due to the damage sustained.
According to the stewards, Stroll was the main culprit, because he did not properly assess the situation. The three-place penalty has no influence on his starting position, because he has to start at the back anyway. He has now received seven penalty points in the past year. With twelve penalty points in a twelve month period, a driver is not allowed to participate in one race.
