On 1 wants to ‘show what refugee reception actually looks like’ with the special broadcast.
“There are many prejudices about the reception of refugees in the Netherlands in general and also about Ukrainians, especially in relation to the tight housing market,” said a spokesperson for BnnVara. “We want to show what such a shelter actually looks like, what it is like to live there, without knowing how long you have to live like this. What do you do all day and how do you keep perspective?”
The Ukrainian refugees who are interviewed have been selected after research by the editors. “They speak English, they receive no media training as far as we know and are supervised by our editors who normally do this and by hostesses.”
The broadcast is not pre-recorded. The presentation is in the hands of Nadia Moussaïd and Hugo Logtenberg. Mayor René Verhulst of Ede is also a guest to talk about the impact that reception has in the small community that lives in Harskamp. According to BnnVara, it is ‘very exceptional’ that a live TV broadcast is allowed in a Dutch refugee camp.
