NAC calls on supporters to stop threatening former trainer Steijn | NOW

NAC Breda called on its supporters on Thursday to stop threatening former coach Maurice Steijn. The club says it understands that the resident of The Hague will file a report.

Steijn resigned from NAC almost a year ago, after he was allegedly threatened by supporters. Those threats came back this week after his son Sem Steijn scored on behalf of ADO Den Haag against NAC and then provoked the Breda fans. He also held up his middle finger when he was whistled.

“Maurice Steijn has indicated that he will file a report. As a club, we have been given access to these messages and we understand the choice to file a report,” NAC reports in a statement. declarationin which the club further emphasized to distance itself from the threats.

“We would like to call on everyone to support our club in a positive way, as so many already do. We have a loyal fan base, which we are very proud of. Don’t ruin it for your fellow supporters.”

Trainer Steijn, who now has relegation candidate Sparta Rotterdam under his wing, left NAC last year following a power struggle with club icon and then technical director Ton Lokhoff. That did not go down well with the fans.

The 48-year-old Steijn proudly labeled his son’s provocations on Wednesday as a “super action”. About the threats, he said: “Last year I let it go. But whatever came in today, including to my children, defies everything. So we’re going to report that.”

Technical director Tim Gilissen: „We spoke with Frank, the staff and the players today, and it has become apparent that there is insufficient confidence to enter these play-offs with Frank as head coach. We believe that we should break something based on this information. The technical staff, led by René Kolmschot and supported by the group of players, will do everything they can to achieve enforcement. We think Frank is a professional, and we owe him a lot of thanks for the past four seasons. We are making this decision with a heavy heart, but in the best interests of the club at this important stage.”
