King Willem-Alexander presented the Appeltjes van Oranje on Thursday at his working palace, Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. These are prizes from the Orange Fund for special initiatives. The three prizes went to the organizations JongPit, Young Leaders Community and Triple ThreaT. The winners will receive 25,000 euros and a bronze Appeltje, designed by Princess Beatrix.
Triple ThreaT, an organization for young people from the Schalkwijk district of Haarlem, won the so-called Grote Appel. According to the jury report, the organization “challenges young people in difficult circumstances to become role models for others”. The king visited the organization once and now called Triple ThreaT “an organization that helps young people cross the threshold”.
The jury praised the organization JongPit, for young people with a chronic disability or condition, for “the way in which young people themselves shape and carry the initiative and approach”. Young Leaders Community, a group of young people committed to the Moroccan-Dutch community, was told that they are “using the powers of the community”. The organization offers training and coaching to help young people towards a better future.
Queen Máxima usually hands out the prizes, but because this 20th time is an anniversary edition, the king did it himself. Máxima and Princess Beatrix were there.
