Confusion about the possible return of Today Inside† While Johan Derksen confirmed on Wednesday that the program can be seen again on SBS6 from next week, Talpa leaves in a comment. The Telegraph know that Derksen has spoken out of turn.

According to Talpa, there was a good conversation with the men on Sunday, but: “The reporting regarding a return of the program Today Inside on SBS6 is premature. We had a good conversation with the men last Sunday to look back in peace on the past few weeks and what happened. As soon as there is more news to report, we will come back to this from SBS6,” a spokesperson said.

No clarity

Presenter Wilfred Genee keeps aloof and late The Telegraph would like to refer to “our spokesperson Johan Derksen.”

René van der Gijp also does not provide clarity for the time being about the possible restart of Today Inside† Opposite RTL Boulevard the regular table guest of the talk show stated on Wednesday that he knows nothing about the comeback of the talk show, also announced on Wednesday by Johan Derksen.

“What I know, I also know from the newspaper. I have had no further contact with Johan for the rest. Apparently he has now said that we will continue, but I know just as much as you do,” said Van der Gijp. “But he has apparently decided that we will continue, then we will continue.”

candle riot

Derksen, Genee and René van der Gijp decided to stop almost two weeks ago after a storm of commotion about a confession by Derksen that he penetrated an unconscious woman with a candle half a century ago. He later recanted his story, stating that there had been no penetration.

Reporter Jordi Versteegden spoke with Johan Derksen and Wilfred Genee about the ‘return’ of Today Inside. Text continues below the video.

Since the men’s decision to stop almost two weeks ago, Talpa has not provided any further explanation. Talpa also did not want to confirm whether the program Today Inside definitively stops. ‘s social media channels Today Inside are still in the air. According to Talpa, the company did this ‘for the fans’.

Misunderstood

According to Talpa boss Paul Römer, the media company wanted to offer the VI trio the opportunity to provide explanations, after commotion had arisen about the statements. “But that didn’t work out well. That broadcast did not go as we had hoped,” Römer confessed after the broadcast on NPO Radio 1.

Derksen mainly explained that he had been misunderstood and nuanced his own anecdote. “The core of the story did not come out. Namely that no counterbalance was offered to Johan’s story and that large groups in Dutch society feel insulted as a result. That is no longer possible at this time. Not even in this program.”

Johan Derksen offers no apologies for the ‘candle story’ that he previously told Today Inside. In the first broadcast since the program went off the air, Derksen said that he will not say “sorry”, but that it was not his intention to hurt “people who have been really affected by sexual violence”.

In the earlier broadcast of the program, Derksen said that half a century earlier he had penetrated a drunk and unconscious woman with a candle. In the broadcast he called it a “youth sin”. He later weakened his story, saying that there had been no penetration. Derksen, Wilfred Genee and René van der Gijp decided to stop the program after a few days of great commotion.

According to Derksen, people at talk show tables have demanded that he apologize. However, the presenter stated that he has “already distanced himself” from his story in the broadcast. He held up his middle finger at the camera, a gesture addressed to “all the people on talk shows saying” that he should apologize.

Derksen also said in the broadcast that he spoke with State Secretary Gunay Uslu of Culture and Media about the ‘candle incident’ and the commotion about it. It was “a very pleasant conversation”, according to Derksen. “Mrs. Uslu has stolen my heart,” he said. “We have agreed, we will not blow the whistle on the conversation.”

The analyst said he had never been as busy as after the offending broadcast. The day before the conversation with Uslu, he made an appointment with Talpa boss John de Mol and he also had a conversation with the vice squad in Groningen, according to Derksen. There he was told that the case is “barred”. Finally, he said about the ongoing investigation that an official report has been drawn up. “They have heard my story”, and now it is decided what to do with it.

A group of demonstrators gathered on Monday evening in front of the studio where Today Inside is being recorded, at the media park in Hilversum. They protested the return of the program to television. People carried signs and banners with texts such as ‘Rape culture inside’, ‘No platform for rape culture’, ‘Put that candle in your own ass’ and ‘No buhne for racism sexism’.
