Stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked by a man from the audience during a performance in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening local time. Several videos of the incident, which took place during the Netflix Is A Joke festival in the Hollywood Bowl, are now on social media.
The images show how a man runs hard against the comedian and then falls to the ground himself. Chappelle appears to have been unharmed. Several videos also show that the attacker is taken away by an ambulance after his act. According to several eyewitnesses on social media, the man broke his arm in the attack. It is not yet clear why the man attacked Chappelle.
Chappelle became discredited in the fall of 2021 after critics found some of the jokes on his show The Closer transphobic and anti-LGBTI. Netflix employees went on strike in protest against the show, but the company continued to support the comedian.
