Comeback Serena Williams (40) abruptly ends after injury doubles partner | Tennis

The American made her comeback in the Eastbourne doubles tournament this week after a year of absence due to injuries. Her doubles partner Ons Jabeur has withdrawn due to a knee injury. Williams had already reached the semifinals with the Tunisian.

Williams (40) will be chasing her 24th grand slam title in singles at Wimbledon from Monday, but has only played two official matches this year. That was also in the doubles, in which she was too strong with Jabeur on Wednesday for the Japanese Shuko Aoyama and Chan Hao-ching from Taiwan.

Williams dropped out in the first round at Wimbledon last year with an ankle injury. After that, she also withdrew from the Olympics. She also missed the US Open due to a hamstring injury. Williams received a wildcard for Wimbledon, the tournament she won seven times. In Eastbourne she wanted to get some rhythm.
